ECE PhD Recruitment
In Spring 2024, I was the keynote speaker for my program's recruitment event. Afterwards, I wrote this post for LinkedIn:

This past week, I served as the keynote speaker for the ECE PhD recruitment event at UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering. I shared my personal journey through the PhD program, highlighted how my experience was uniquely shaped by San Diego, and also got to show off my current work at LookDeep Health.
Using my journey as a reference, I asked the prospective students to consider the following when choosing their training institution:
- What do you want to obsess over?
- How do you want to use your training?
- Who do you want by your side?
- Who has the information you need?
- What resources can you use?
- Where do you want to decompress?
The slides that were presented are shared below, as is.
Here are the slides I presented.

Grad @ UC San Diego
ECE Graduate Student Council
Served on the committee every year from 2013-2019, starting as a 1st-year representative. This group was focused on serving the MS and PhD students in the ECE department at UC San Diego. The department eventually gave me and Dr. Hannah Grant the first-ever "ECE Graduate Student Service Award" for all our efforts.
ECE GSC - Highlights
Social Events
We hosted quarterly happy hours, made friends across departments, and connected with local restaurants and breweries to keep students going.
ECE 290 Seminars
Every fall, members of the GSC get faculty and alumni speakers to connect new students. This is how I met my advisor and became a founding member of TNEL.
Shirts
We made shirts for the graduate student program. Each year had their own design, two of which were mine:
2017
Description: All 10 ECE tracks listed on our website are represented each segment. The dots are a binary representation for the characters 'U' 'C' 'S' 'D', starting from the top left and rotating clockwise.
2018
Description: Electrical and Computer Engineering / University of California, San Diego / Jacobs School of Engineering... No one submitted a design.
Graduate Student Association
I think it is now called the GPSA? This was the campus-wide graduate student and professional association at UC San Diego. Each department sent a few representatives, including the schools of medicine, law, and business. Lots of bureaucracy, networking, and social events.
GSA - Highlights
- Graduate student union pay increase
- Brought other departments to ECE
- Defended the Che Cafe co-op
- Broke ground on the SD Trolley Blue Line
Jacobs Graduate Student Council
This was an engineering-specific graduate student group that focused on professional development. They used to host a PI run... to this day I still don't know how.
Undergraduate @ Stanford
Engineering Physics Interdisciplinary Committee (EPIC)
Engineering Physics is a real major at Stanford. It is managed by the departments of Physics and Engineering. Because the "core" course requirements split between physics, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering, the students of this major do not have a common space. This student group aimed to create that space.
